For the last school day before the break
The day before Thanksgiving break is hard to fill with new lessons, and bingo keeps a class together while still practising listening and reading. This set uses 30 harvest words, including cornucopia, wishbone, cranberry and pecan pie, spread across 30 different cards, so every child has their own.
A family game too
Thanksgiving bingo works just as well at home while the turkey rests. Print a card for every guest, from grandparents to the youngest cousin, and let a different person call each round. Change the title to your family name and add in-jokes or family dishes to the word list, so the game feels like yours.
Ways to play
- Classic: first to finish a line across, down or corner to corner.
- Gratitude bingo: when a player marks a word, they share something they're thankful for that links to it.
- Blackout: keep going until someone covers the whole card, which suits a long, lazy afternoon.
Make it easier or harder
For kindergarten, switch to a 3 × 3 card and short words like pie, corn, leaf and feast. Older children can play with the free space turned off. Two cards per page saves paper if you're printing for a big group. The rust-orange fall border prints well in greyscale, and the caller sheet doubles as cut-out slips to pull from a hat or a basket.
