Hearts you can count
By February, kindergarteners usually have the idea of addition but still enjoy seeing it. In this page's six rows, two groups of hearts sit on either side of a plus sign. Your child counts both groups and writes how many there are in all, with every total at 10 or less.
Math with the candy box
A small box of conversation hearts turns this page into a hands-on lesson. Children lay out each group on the table, slide the two together and count. They can also sort the candies by colour and ask which pile has more, or how many there are altogether.
Levels for your group
- Pre-K: set "Numbers up to" to 5 and do one row at a time.
- Kindergarten: keep the default of 10. Encourage counting on from the bigger group.
- 1st grade: change "Worksheet type" to Math problems for number sentences within 20.
Party-week timing
This page takes about ten minutes, so it fits neatly before party time. Because the problems change every time you press "New sheet", you can make a second copy for homework or for a child who missed school that day.
