Something calm for party week
Valentine's Day in the classroom means sugar, card swaps and a lot of chatter. A word search gives everyone something steady to do while cards get sorted into their bags. This puzzle hides 16 words on a 14 × 14 grid, from cupid and chocolate to kindness and friend.
Keep the focus on kindness
Not every child loves a romantic holiday, so many teachers treat it as a day about friendship. Once the puzzle is done, try one of these ideas:
- Each child picks a word and writes a kind note to a classmate using it.
- Build a class list of "kind words" and add them to a wall of hearts.
- Replace the word list with students' first names, so everyone appears in the puzzle.
Choosing a level
- 1st grade: choose Easy and shorter words, or use our kindergarten version.
- 2nd and 3rd grade: this Medium setting adds diagonal words.
- 4th grade: choose Hard so that some words run backwards.
