Start January with something easy
The first day back after winter break is a settling-in day. A New Year word search gives students something calm to do while you take attendance and catch up. This one hides 14 words like countdown, midnight, fireworks, resolution and fresh start on a 14 × 14 grid.
Pair it with goal setting
After the puzzle, ask students to choose three words from the list and use them in a short "My 2027" paragraph: one thing they want to learn, one habit to build, and one thing they're looking forward to. It links naturally to New Year resolution activities without needing extra prep.
For families
New Year's Eve with kids can be a long wait until midnight. Print a few puzzles with different seeds and race each other, or make a family version with your own words: the places you visited this year, favourite memories, or the names of everyone at the party.
Easy and hard versions
- Younger children: Easy and a 10 × 10 grid, with words like party, clock and goals.
- Older children: Hard, with backwards words.
The puzzle uses the New Year theme with clocks and stars in the header, so it prints well in black and white.
