The goal for third grade
By the end of 3rd grade, students are expected to know all products of two one-digit numbers from memory. That is a lot of facts, but many are easy wins: the 0, 1, 2, 5 and 10 times tables follow patterns children already know. This sheet mixes all facts from 0 × 0 to 10 × 10.
A practice plan
- Weeks 1–2: set the range to 0–5 and master the easy tables.
- Weeks 3–4: set it to 0–10. Expect mistakes on 6s, 7s and 8s.
- Weekly: one timed sheet, with the score recorded privately. Children love beating their own time.
Fewer, harder problems
Forty problems is a full page. For struggling learners, drop the count to 20 and narrow the range so they finish feeling successful. A finished page does more for confidence than a half-done one.
Link to division
Once multiplication is steady, switch the operation to Division with the same range. Every division problem is built backwards from a multiplication fact, so there are no remainders and no surprises. That shows children that division is "multiplication in reverse".
