Why capitals first
Most preschool programmes start with capital letters. They are made of straight lines and simple curves, they all sit between the same two lines, and they are the letters children see on signs and in their own name. This pack gives one page to each capital letter, A to Z, in the Large size.
What's on each page
- A solid model letter with a numbered dot at the start of each stroke and an arrow showing its direction
- Rows of dotted copies to trace across the page
- A row of words that begin with the letter, in capitals
- An empty row to write the letter alone
A suggested order
You don't have to go from A to Z. Many teachers start with letters made only of straight lines, L, F, E, H, T and I, then add slanted ones like A, V, W, X, Y, Z, M and N, and leave curves like C, O, G, S, J, D, P, B, R, Q and U until later. Children's own initials are a great place to begin.
How much is enough
Two or three minutes of careful tracing beats a rushed page. Stop while your child is still enjoying it. When the capitals are going well, try the kindergarten pack, which adds lowercase letters. All 26 pages download as a single PDF.
