Their name is the first word that matters

A child's own name is usually the first word they want to write, and the first one they will be asked to write at preschool. This maker turns any name into a tracing page in seconds: type it in the box, and the sheet fills with dotted copies on handwriting lines.

What you get

  • The first copy in solid ink, with numbered arrows on every letter showing where to start
  • Rows of dotted copies to trace
  • Empty rows at the bottom to write the name alone

Capital first, then lowercase

Schools teach names with a capital first letter and lowercase for the rest, like "Sam," not "SAM." Typing the name that way gives your child the right model from the start. Accents are fine: Zoë and José are traced without the accent marks.

Long names

The box takes up to 20 characters, so a first and last name together usually fit. If a name is too long for the row at the size you picked, its letters are drawn a little smaller so it stays on one line.

Make more than one

Make a sheet for each child in a class, or one with a sibling's name for extra fun. Choose the Small size for 1st graders who are ready for smaller writing, or switch to dashed or solid grey letters if dotted ones are hard to see.
