Counting past ten
Kindergarten children are expected to write numbers to 20, and the teens are where most of the mistakes happen. This set gives each number from 1 to 20 its own row: page one covers 1 to 10, page two covers 11 to 20.
The tricky teens
When we say "fourteen," we hear the four first, so many children write 41. A simple reminder helps: teen numbers always start with a 1, because they are "ten and some more." Point to the 1 at the front of each row on page two and say "ten and..." before the second digit.
How to use the set
- Day one: trace page one, 1 to 10.
- Day two: trace page two, 11 to 20, saying each number aloud.
- Day three: use the Large size for any numbers that are still reversed.
Make it your own
Switch to Small (1st grade) for a quicker sheet, or Large for children who need more room. The arrows can be turned off once your child knows where every number starts. For counting practice to go with it, our Pre-K and kindergarten math worksheets use ten frames to show the same numbers.
