The end-of-year month
For families with school-age children, May is the month of field trips, concerts, sports finals, teacher gifts and the end-of-year awards assembly. Getting it all onto one page early saves a lot of last-minute scrambling.
May 2027 dates
- Cinco de Mayo: Wednesday, May 5
- Teacher Appreciation Week: usually the first full week of May, which is May 3 to 7 in 2027
- Mother's Day: Sunday, May 9
- Memorial Day: Monday, May 31, the last Monday of the month and the unofficial start of summer
May 1 falls on a Saturday and the month has 31 days, so it stretches over six rows whichever day your week starts on. The last row holds only Sunday the 30th and Memorial Day, leaving the rest of the line free for notes.
Ideas for May
- Plan a thank-you for each teacher during Teacher Appreciation Week: one small note or treat each day.
- Write every recital, game and graduation in now, then colour-code by child.
- Start a countdown to the last day of school.
- UK families can switch to UK bank holidays: May has two in 2027, on May 3 and May 31.
Gardeners can note the last frost date for their area and plan planting weekends. Add the notes lines underneath for a packing list for Memorial Day weekend.
