Why this sheet mixes the signs
Late November is a good moment to check whether first graders are really reading the plus and minus signs, or just working on autopilot. Because addition and subtraction are shuffled together here, every problem asks for a small decision. A child who gets all the sums right but stumbles on the mix hasn't lost any facts. They just need to slow down and look at the sign.
A turkey-themed fact check
- Have children circle every minus sign in orange before they begin.
- Ask them to colour a feather on a paper turkey for each row they finish correctly.
- Mark the three facts they found hardest, and start with those on the next sheet.
The last day before the break
Short days and excited children call for something familiar. This page takes about ten minutes, and the answer key lets early finishers check their own work while you pack up the classroom.
Sending one home
Press "New sheet" for a new set of facts to send home for the long weekend. It uses the same skill and border but has different numbers, so it's fresh practice rather than a repeat.
