Regrouping practice in a fall border
Carrying the ten is usually the main math goal around this time of the second grade year, and it needs a lot of repetition. Every one of these 20 problems requires a regroup in the ones column, so no problem is wasted. Stacked columns keep tens and ones lined up, which is where most early mistakes happen.
Spot the common error
Watch for a child who writes 13 in the ones place and ends up with an answer like 713. That usually means they haven't yet seen the extra ten as something to carry over. Base-ten blocks or bundles of straws on the table make it concrete: ten loose ones swap for one bundle.
Make it a feast
Tell students each problem is a dish for the class feast. Solving five correctly "serves" a course, from the soup to the pumpkin pie. It's a small story, but it can carry a tired class through the last afternoon before the break.
Level it up or down
Choose "No regrouping" under the regrouping setting for students who still need confidence, or "Mixed" so they must decide for themselves whether to carry.
