How to write 0
Zero is drawn like a tall, narrow O: start at the top, curve counter-clockwise down the left side, round the bottom and back up to the start.
Number facts for zero
Zero is even, and it is the number you reach when you take everything away. Add zero to any number and that number stays the same: 7 + 0 is still 7. It comes just before 1 on a number line, and it is the only number here with no dots at all on a ten-frame.
Zero in real life
Zero means none at all. Hold out an empty bowl and ask how many apples are inside. Then count down from five to zero like a rocket launch, and blast off on zero. Later, show how a 0 after a 1 makes 10.
