How to write 9
Nine is a circle and a line. Curve counter-clockwise from the top right to make a ball, then pull a straight line down the right side to the baseline. It is the same movement as the letter a, only taller.
Number facts for nine
One more than nine is 10, and one less is 8. 9 is odd, so 9 socks make 4 pairs with one left over. You can make nine as 8 + 1, 7 + 2, 6 + 3 or 5 + 4. On a ten-frame it is a full row of five and 4 more. Count on from 9: 10, 11, 12. Count back: 8, 7, 6.
Nine in real life
Nine is one less than ten. Put ten blocks in a row, take one away, and count what is left. Do it again with nine snacks, eating one each time you count back.
