How to write 4
This sheet uses the open 4 taught in most schools. Pull down from the top, slide across to the right, lift the pencil, then draw a long line straight down from the top line.
Number facts for four
One more than four is 5, and one less is 3. 4 is even, so 4 socks make 2 matching pairs. You can make four as 3 + 1 or 2 + 2. On a ten-frame it leaves 1 empty box in the top row. Count on from 4: 5, 6, 7. Count back: 3, 2, 1.
Four in real life
Many animals have four legs: dog, cat, horse, cow. Ask your child to crawl like a four-legged animal and count the hands and knees touching the floor. Draw a table with four legs.
