How to write 8
Eight is one smooth stroke, not two stacked circles. Start at the top right and curve back like an S, go round the bottom loop, then come back up to close the top loop.
Number facts for eight
One more than eight is 9, and one less is 7. 8 is even, so 8 socks make 4 matching pairs. You can make eight as 7 + 1, 6 + 2, 5 + 3 or 4 + 4. On a ten-frame it is a full row of five and 3 more. Count on from 8: 9, 10, 11. Count back: 7, 6, 5.
Eight in real life
A spider has eight legs and an octopus has eight arms. Draw a spider body in the empty row and add eight legs, counting each one, or count eight steps up the stairs.

A solid 8 with a numbered arrow comes first, then dotted copies, the word "eight" and an empty row to write alone. When it feels easy, try 9.
