How to write E and e
Capital E has four strokes: one line down, then three lines that start at the stem and go right, along the top, across the middle (a little shorter) and along the bottom. Lowercase e starts halfway between the midline and the baseline: go straight across to the right, then curve up, over and round to the left, finishing with an open tail at the bottom right.
The E sound
The short e is the sound in egg, elf and elk. The long e says its name, as in eagle. E is the most common letter in written English, so it will turn up in almost every word your child reads.
Words to say and draw: egg, elf, elk, elbow, envelope.
What's on the sheet
The first E and the first e are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of e words to trace, then an empty row for writing E and e alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Put a letter card inside each of a dozen plastic eggs. Your child opens them one by one, says the letter, and keeps the E and e ones to trace on the sheet.
