How to write W and w
W is one stroke with four slants: down, up, down, up. Capital W goes from the top line to the baseline; lowercase w sits between the midline and the baseline. Keep both points at the bottom level, touching the baseline.
The W sound
W is made with rounded lips, as in web, wig and worm. Say "w-w-wiggle" and wiggle a finger at the same time.
Words to say and draw: web, wig, worm, water, wagon.
What's on the sheet
The first W and the first w are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of w words to trace, then an empty row for writing W and w alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Draw a spider web with chalk outside and write letters where the strands cross. Your child walks along the web, stopping on each W and w.
