How to write O and o
Both O and o start at the top and go counter-clockwise: round to the left, down, along the bottom and back up to where you started. Starting at the top and going this way is what makes a, d, g and q flow later, so practise it until it feels natural.
The O sound
O is a vowel: short in ox, otter and olive, and long in open and ocean, where it says its own name.
Words to say and draw: ox, otter, olive, ostrich, octopus.
What's on the sheet
The first O and the first o are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of o words to trace, then an empty row for writing O and o alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Roll play dough into snakes and shape them into big O's and small o's. Then trace each one with a finger, always starting at the top.
