How to write R and r
Capital R is a P with a leg: a line down, a bump from the top to the midline, then a slant from the bump out to the bottom right. Lowercase r is a short line down from the midline, then a small arch that starts on the line and stops before it comes back down.
The R sound
R is a growly sound, as in rain, ring and rug. It is one of the last sounds many children say clearly, often not until age six or seven.
Words to say and draw: rain, ring, rug, rabbit, rocket.
What's on the sheet
The first R and the first r are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of r words to trace, then an empty row for writing R and r alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Draw a race track with letters along it and drive a toy car round, stopping on every R or r to say a word that starts with it.
