How to write L and l
Capital L is two strokes: a line straight down, then a line along the baseline to the right. Lowercase l is a single tall line from the top line to the baseline. It is easy to make, but easy to confuse with capital I and the number 1, so point out the difference.
The L sound
L is made with the tip of the tongue behind the top teeth: "l-l-lion". Some children take a while to say it clearly, and that is normal.
Words to say and draw: lion, leaf, lamp, log, ladybug.
What's on the sheet
The first L and the first l are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of l words to trace, then an empty row for writing L and l alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Collect leaves on a walk and write L or l on each one with a marker. Line them up to count them, or arrange twigs to make a giant L on the grass.
