How to write V and v
V is one stroke: slant down to the right to make a sharp point on the baseline, then slant back up. Capital V starts at the top line; lowercase v starts at the midline. Keep the point sharp, not round, so it does not turn into a u.
The V sound
V is the buzzy partner of f: top teeth on the bottom lip, with voice. Feel the tickle on "v-v-van".
Words to say and draw: van, vest, vase, violin, volcano.
What's on the sheet
The first V and the first v are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of v words to trace, then an empty row for writing V and v alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Make a volcano from a paper cone. Your child hunts for V and v in a picture book, and for each one found, adds a paper flame to the top of the volcano.
