How to write U and u
Capital U is one stroke: pull down from the top line, curve round at the bottom, and push back up to the top on the right. Lowercase u does the same between the midline and the baseline, then adds a short straight line down on the right side.
The U sound
U is a vowel: short in up, us and under, and long in unicorn, where it says its own name.
Words to say and draw: up, us, under, umbrella, unicorn.
What's on the sheet
The first U and the first u are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of u words to trace, then an empty row for writing U and u alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Open an umbrella and place letter cards under it and on top of it. Ask: "Is the u under the umbrella, or up on top?" Then swap places.
