How to write M and m
Capital M: pull down on the left first. Then go back to the top and make one long stroke: slant down to the baseline in the middle, slant back up to the top right, and pull straight down. Lowercase m is a short line down from the midline, then two humps, each one starting on the line before it and ending on the baseline.
The M sound
M is the hum you make with your lips closed, as in moon, map and milk. Rub your tummy and say "mmm" to feel it.
Words to say and draw: moon, map, milk, mop, monkey.
What's on the sheet
The first M and the first m are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of m words to trace, then an empty row for writing M and m alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Make a "mmm menu": your child draws three foods that start with m, such as muffin, melon and milk, and traces a big M at the top of the menu.
