How to write K and k
Capital K: one line down, then a slant from the top right in to the middle of the line, then a slant from the line out to the bottom right. Lowercase k has a tall stick and the same two slants made smaller: in from the midline, and out to the baseline.
The K sound
K and hard c make the same sound, as in kite, key and king. At the start of a word, k is usually followed by i or e.
Words to say and draw: kite, key, king, kid, kangaroo.
What's on the sheet
The first K and the first k are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of k words to trace, then an empty row for writing K and k alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Cut a kite from coloured paper and tie a string tail with paper bows. Each time your child learns a new k word, write it on a bow and add it to the tail.
