How to write Z and z
Z is one stroke: across the top, a long slant down to the left, then across the bottom. Capital Z reaches the top line; lowercase z sits between the midline and the baseline. Pause at each corner before turning.
The Z sound
Z is the buzz of a bee, as in zoo, zip and zebra.
Words to say and draw: zoo, zip, zero, zebra, zigzag.
What's on the sheet
The first Z and the first z are solid, with numbered dots and arrows showing where each stroke starts and which way it goes. The rest of each row is dotted for tracing. Next comes a row of z words to trace, then an empty row for writing Z and z alone. Choose Large for Pre-K or Medium for kindergarten, or switch to uppercase or lowercase only.
Activity idea
Practise zigzags first: in the air, then with a finger on the table, then on the pre-writing lines sheet. Then turn a zigzag into a Z by stopping after three lines.
